Sample TKN04 271B Context 271 Base fill of recut F405 in northern ditch terminal F151: recut is through a grey green gravely sand 275. Dark grey organic deposit over natural subsoil: covered by a thin layer of silt 272. Stake may have been deposited as waste material or relate to collapsed wooden feature associated with ditch terminal. Bark intact, so likely to have been soon after death. Provides TPQ for filling in of the ditch above, and stone path constructed over the ditch.
