Sample TKN04 163B Context 163 Dark silty loam deposit in the centre of the sequence in the cist with cremated bone and charcoal. Above similar deposit 182 and below similar deposit 157. A barley grain, reflecting material buried with the cremation, the date is paired with a barley grain from the same context. Deliberate internment of bone and cremation pyre material following cremation, probably shortly following death of cremated individual/s. The charcoal may have been burnt on the pyre or otherwise incorporated into the cist while open; either way, this is likely to have happened shortly after death.
