C14 Radiocarbon Dating - Sample - OxA-9762

Return to Index

Scottish Radiocarbon Database

OxA-9762

WITHDRAWN BECAUSE OF SAMPLE TREATMENT PROBLEM (Sheridan 2006, 202). A single wolf bone from the organic basal ditch fill 1 B16 This sample produced a date different from those of other samples in broadly similar contexts. However, it was processed with the others and its activity was measured with two standards and a background sample which all produced normal results. Its yield was good (about 8%) and the CN ratio at 3.3 suggests that it was not contaminated with carbon of a different age from that of the bone. Archaeological explanations must be sought for the difference.
