C14 Radiocarbon Dating - Sample - GU-4827

Return to Index

Scottish Radiocarbon Database

GU-4827

Oak charcoal from L11, a very large posthole, forming part of the wall of a 22m long 7-8m wide timber enclosure, probably of mid-late Neolithic date. The charcoal is from a large sample near the top of the posthole. The material seems either to be 1) the burnt outer part of the post, burnt in situ or 2) a substantial burnt mass on the surface of the site during the rotting of the post.
