An alder pile, one of 12 piles protruding from an intertidal sand bank, close to low water in the Beauly Firth. This 300mm pile protruded 100mm from the estuarine sand. The lower part of the pile shows cut marks (not to be sent for dating ) which indicate that it was cut and specifically worked to be used as a pile.
