A piece of birch charcoal (S.8) from a charcoal-rich loam [816] forming the upper fill of upper cut of clay bowl structure [815] within House 2. This house was eroded and truncated and constructed on midden. It had a central hearth surrounded by a floor which had been replaced on at least one occasion. Although severely damaged it seems tentatively possible that this house may have been similar to houses at Skara Brae. This may well be derived from the earlier midden material beneath Structure 1, into which the bowl was set. Grooved Ware predominated at the site, but round-bottomed bowl was present at lower levels.
