Scottish Radiocarbon Database

AA-51370

A piece of willow charcoal (S.8124) found in a thin layer of burnt material and ash tramped into a secondary layer of clay floor 4041 in House 3 (Trench C1). The floor gave the impression that it had seen several episodes of patching, mending and re-levelling. House 3 succeeded Structure 1 and House 2 and was built on sloping ground to its north. It was of linear form but lacked substantial orthostatic divisions and the masonry of each 'compartment swelled out forming recesses. It had a square stone hearth at the rear of the second compartment. The pottery from this house was round-based bowl. See also AA-51379 and AA-51380.
