C14 Radiocarbon Dating - Sample - AA-22910

Return to Index

Scottish Radiocarbon Database

AA-22910

Barley seeds from a peat layer (818) thought to have formed in a freshwater loch, prior to a sequence of extra mural deposits outside the broch. The deposit is sandwiched by clean sand. The peat layers accumulated in a freshwater loch, incorporating this seed and twig (burnt) which may have blown in from human occupation on the islet. The seed was probably incorporated 'fresh' whilst it was still on the surface.
