Archaeology Notes

NO49NE 118 c. 46 97

See also NO49NE 117.

(Formerly entered on marginal card (M) 1). NO 48 95 - 4797. There is a roughly squared granite memorial on the road at the hill-top near Tillycairn (NO 4697) which asserts that the pass was used by Edward I in 1296 and 1303 (certainly incorrect) and by Montrose in 1645 (almost certainly incorrect). The old road can be seen in the wood on the W side of the road from the memorial

(Undated) information from OS archaeology records, transcribed (RJCM), 9 March 2005.
