Activities

Project (February 2001 - April 2001)

This purpose of this project, funded by Historic Scotland, was to record a number of areas of medieval rig and furrow, many of which are threatened by modern agricultural techniques. The project should have been completed by the end of March 2001, but was halted by the outbreak of foot and mouth disease. The project was completed in April 2002.

A total of six areas were surveyed ranging from small discrete areas of rig and furrow (eg Clerkhill) to more complex agricultural landscapes (Meikle Eddieston). This detailed theodolyte survey recorded at least two points on each rig and the centre of other features, mainly field clearance heaps.
