Archaeology Notes

NJ71SW 22 7260 1214.

This structure is situated to W of an un-named burn and 30m NW of a hydraulic ram; its function and date remain unclear. It comprises a rectangular setting measuring 4.6m from E-W by 2.4m transversely and up to 0.5m in height of large contiguous boulders; displacement at the SW corner has revealed a core of smaller boulders.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS/ARW), 18-19 October 1994.

NMRS, MS/820.

Activities

Field Visit (May 1996 - May 1996)

A028 Structure.

This irregular structure measures 6.0 x 3.0m and survives as a rough stone platform edged with irregular boulders which is oriented east - west. While no immediate function for this feature could be defined, it is possible that it is the hard-standing for a tank or similar, related to the hydraulic ram (Monument 30).

Field walking, 24.5.96.
