A pillbox surrounded by a barbed-wire fence, which forms part of a coastal defence line from Kingston to the River Lossie is visible on Royal Air Force vertical aerial photographs taken in 1945 (106G/UK 750: 5008-9, flown 31 August 1945).

Laser Scanning (27 June 2016 - 28 June 2016)
NJ 28057 67970 (rectangular pillbox and anti-tank blocks), NJ 26697 68409 (hexagonal pillbox), NJ 25586 68174 (road block) A survey was undertaken, 27–28 June 2016, of selected elements of the WW2 defences at Lossie Forest. The recorded elements consisted of a rectangular pillbox and associated anti-tank blocks on the shore in front of the coastal battery, a hexagonal pillbox and associated anti-tank blocks, and a road block by the Innes Canal. The three sites were surveyed using laser scanning and photogrammetry to create site plans and 3D visualisations, including videos and flatpack nets to recreate the sites as paper models.
