This type 27 pillbox is visible on post-war RAF vertical air photographs (V/RAF/882, 67-8, flown 30 March 1954) beside a small hut about 500m NE of the main elements of the radar station.

Information from RCAHMS (DE), October 2002

A large type 27 concrete and brick pillbox is situated about 200m NNE of a minor road running from Hillhead farmhouse to Whitewell Bungalow. It measures about 27m across and is eight sided with a loophole in each of the sides. The roof is of concrete with a space centrally placed for the anti-aircraft machine gun, walls of brick and the entrance on the NW.

About 27m W of the pillbox is a rectangular hut with asbestos roof. It measures about 17.9m by 5.6m overall. The building has six bays on each side some still with metal window frames, the entrance is in the N gable end with the chimney at the S end.

Access to the structures is by a made track from the public road.
