Small submarine with a two or three man crew. Used for special missions such as sinking warships in heavily defended harbours.

A specialised weapon system comprising a heavyweight torpedo and used in the Second World War to attack enemy vessels in harbour. It comprised a heavyweight torpedo controlled by two divers seated astride it; the bow was formed by a detachable explosive charge. This class of vessel is distinguished from the MIDGET SUBMARINE by not having an integral pressure hull. |
