BALLAST MOUND A spoil tip of dumped ballast, deposited from merchant vessels prior to loading cargo, and usually found in estuarine contexts near harbours.
BOAT YARD A place where boats are built, repaired and stored.
BREAKWATER A structure which protects a beach or harbour by breaking the force of the waves.
CRANE A large, metal or wooden structure, used for raising, lowering and moving heavy objects. Use more specific term where known.
JETTY A mole or pier-like structure situated at the entrance of a harbour, or running out into a lake of the sea, so as to defend the harbour or coast.
