"Sime of Whitesside" tower is shown W of "Mereburne" (Muirburn) near its confluence with Liddel Water (NY 453 796) on a map of 1590.

There is no local information about a tower in this area and although Dr Robson (Hawick Museum) suggests that there may have been a tower associated with Whitlawside (NY48SW 8), he has no positive record of it.

The tower of 'Sime of Whitteside' is noted on a map of 1590 to the W of the junction of the Muir Burn with the River Liddle, but it cannot be located.
