Archaeology Notes

NY48SW 19 4351 8376.

The turf-covered remains of a cairn are situated in a clearing in a recently cleared and replanted forestry plantation at the W end of Windy Edge. It measures about 6m in diameter by 0.5m in height and its edge has been damaged by recent forestry ploughing, revealing a core of small boulders and stones.

A second cairn, also measuring about 6m in diameter, is visible in the exposed section of a drain about 45m to the W.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 1 July 1993.

Activities

Field Visit (28 February 1996)

These cairns are generally as previously described. That to the E (at NY 4351 8376) stands at the junction of two forestry rides and has been damaged, presumably by forestry traffic. The second cairn is still visible in the N side of a drain to the W.
