There are several small unopened cairns on the hill behind Old Irvine steading (NY38SE 86). One is much larger than the others.
J and R Hyslop 1912
(Approx NY 363 817) Situated on Rig Hill, about 1/2mile W by N of Old Irvine, is a much dilapidated cairn, about 16ft across. On the same hill, about 80yds W of the NW corner of the enclosure at NY 364 816, is another, 18ft in diameter and 2ft high.
RCAHMS 1920.
The small cairns in the area centred around NY 363 817 on Burian Hill are stone clearance mounds which are part of either the limited area of rig and furrow cultivation at 198m OD or perhaps an earlier, though not evident cultivation system which it may overlie. The mound at NY 3638 8171, for example, is a crescentic stony pile 6.0m by 5.0m and 0.6m high.

The few heaps of stone to the NW of the settlement NY38SE 5 may be associated with the earlier field-system that is also noted under that number.
