(NX 9276 7744) Ladye Well (NR)

OS 6" map (1969)

Lady Well, adjacent to Chapel Knowe, is mentioned by the RCAHMS.

RCAHMS 1914, visited 1912

A porcelain bowl about 2 ft in diameter has been immersed in the centre of the well, around which the ground is very boggy. A storage tank, fed from the well, stands about 10 ft NE.

Information from OS Reviser 9 November 1951

The well has been formerly enclosed by an iron railing. The area inside the old railing is completely choked with weeds; otherwise as described above. No further information.

Visited by OS (WDJ) 1 July 1964

From the proximity of Lady Chapel (St Mary's Chapel - NX97NW 8), this would appear to have been a holy well, dedicated to St Mary.

Information from OS Recorder (IF) 25 June 1979
