"At the end of this {Collins} Close adjoining St Michael Street formerly stood an old building 3 storeys high which was called the Bishop's Lodging which was pulled down about 16 years ago {c. 1835}, it being then in a dilapidated state. It is generally supposed or asserted by tradition that it was the occasional residence of the Bishop of Galloway."
