(Name: NX 6384 7897) Supposed Site of Battle (NR) Between the Scots and Danes (NAT)
OS 6" map (1910)
This is where a battle is said to have been fought between the Scots and the Danes, the Danish king allegedly being buried under the Standing Stone of Dalarran (NX67NW 1). The NSA notes that broken spears have been found in the area at various times, while the ONB refers to pieces of armour being frequently ploughed up on the Holm and swords found at Grennan (NX 635 798).
Harper quotes the tradition referred to above and adds that some assert that this battle occurred between 605 and 621, the combatants being Eochabin, King of Scots and the Cruithnigh from Ireland.
