NX46NW 106 4335 6500 to 4055 6500. MR 23 (formerly Lin 518).
The military road is initially on the line now taken by the A75. Just NW of the junction of this road with the A712, the course of the military road runs behind the Minnigaff council houses, then turns W into Macgregor Drive to rejoin the line of the A75. It then passes through the grounds of Cree Bridge Hotel, which is in line with the old Cree Bridge, some 90 yards upstream from the current bridge (NX46NW 85) at NX 4115 6565. Having traversed the river, the military road shares the line of the A75 through the town of Newton Stewart, turning W into Princes Street at NX 411 652.
W Taylor 1976.
The military road heads NW towards Newton Stewart, passing to the W of Kerrochtree (probably the modern Kirroughtree). It then turns W to cross the river, S of Monygaff (presumably the modern Minnigaff). To the W of the river it turns S.

Visited by OS (RD) 14 November 1966.
There appear to be discrepancies between the details given by Taylor (1976) and those shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10 000 map (1990), although the actual route may be the same. Kirroughtree Avenue, and not Macgregor Drive, is on the line of the military road, but the direction of these roads appears to be the same, and the road followed to the W of the river, prior to the turn-off into Princes Street, is marked A714, which is presumably the line of the A75 prior to the construction of the Newton Stewart by-pass.
