OS 6" map (1858).

See also NX18NW 8 and NX18NW 60.

This is the supposed site of the ancient castle of Knockdolian (i.e. the predecessor of NX18NW 8). No traces whatever remain of such a building. A few very old trees and some scattered stones are the only objects indicative of a building having been here at some remote period.

Name Book 1855

A natural, elongated turf mound.

A mound depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map as the supposed site of Knockdolian Castle appears to be entirely natural and bears no traces of artificial work.
