Archaeology Notes

NX08SE 36 08685 81890 centred Centred NX 08685 81890

Oblique aerial photographs (RCAHMSAP 1995) have revealed the cropmarks of a souterrain, possible enclosures and other cropmarks, approximately 350m S of Ballantrae Bridge (NX08SE 25), in the centre of a large field. The souterrain (NX c.0871 8184) measures approximately 12m in length. A possible circular enclosure, measuring 12m in diameter, is situated about 70m SW of the souterrain. What may be two square enclosures (NX c.0865 8186), are visible about 100m NW of the souterrain. A large number of other cropmarks are situated in the immediate area (see NX08SE 32, NX08SE 33, NX08SE 34, NX08SE 35 ).
