Archaeology Notes

On the lowest slopes on the SE side of Percy Law, there is an area of cross-contour rig measuring 270m from NNW to SSE by between 100m and 130m. Spreading over a gentle slope overlooking an unnamed tributary of the Atton Burn, the cultivation is bounded on the NW and W by the upper edge of further cross-contour cultivation (NT82SW 150) extending over the SW-slopes of Percy Law whilst on the NE it adjoins the SW corner of another block of rig (NT82SW 139) which climbs further up the slopes of Percy Law. A sheepfold (NT82SW 143), at NT 8183 2299, overlies the rig. The rigs, which curve towards the W at the NW end, average 5m in width between 0.5m wide furrows which are up to 0.2m deep.
