Accessing Scotland's Past Project

A pair of estate cottages lies to the east of Marchmont House. These were probably built in about 1860, when a number of estate improvements took place.

Built of harled rubble masonry with red sandstone dressings, the cottages have features typical of Lothian and Borders estate buildings. These include the gabled porches and the lying-plane glazing, which has horizontally, instead of vertically, proportioned panes.
