One of the components of the policies of Spottiswoode House is a large formal walled garden, which still occupies an area to the east of the former house.
A sundial stands in the north-east corner of the garden, just south of a glasshouse. Early editions of Ordnance Survey maps indicate a formal arrangement of paths and trees, while a pine shelter is thought to have been built in the twentieth century.
It is likely that a garden of some sort has been associated with Spottiswoode for many years. A diary written by a member of the Spottiswoode family in the early years of the eighteenth century includes an order for vegetables, indicating that there was at least a kitchen garden at that time.
