Accessing Scotland's Past Project

Lying to the north of Mellerstain House is a stretch of wooded parkland which formed, in the fashion of the time, an integral part of the designed landscape around the house. A long driveway ran through this wooded area towards the main entrance of Mellerstain House. Lodges were constructed where this driveway joined the road, controlling access and setting the architectural tone of the estate.

This single-storeyed and pedimented lodge was one of two constructed in the mid-nineteenth century.
