Archaeology Notes

NT57NW 86 c. 5164 7818 to c. 5141 7812

Scheduled (with NT57NW 46, NT57NW 48, NT57NW 50 ) as Dalvreck, pit alignment.

Information from Historic Scotland, scheduling document dated 16 December 1993.

An alignment of closely spaced pits, orientated ENE-WSW, has been identified from aerial photographs 560m SSW of Newmains House. The pit-alignment is visible from NT c.5164 7818 to NT c.5141 7812, a distance of about 245m. At the WSW end, the alignment kinks sharply to the S for a further 30m. Recent aerial photography (RCAHMSAP 1995) has revealed indeterminate cropmarks, including a sub-circular mark with a diameter of approximately 8m, immediately to the N of the alignment. A second, much longer pit-alignment runs almost parallel and 60m to the N (NT57NW 50).

Information from RCAHMS (KB) 16 December 1999
