The walled garden is situated 822m NW of Thirlestane Castle (NT54NW 7.00) in Garden Plantation. Rectangular in shape it measures about 1.1 hectares in area with the greenhouses on the N wall.
The garden is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Berwickshire 1862, sheet xix), which shows that the layout and outline has altered very little in the intervening period.
