OS 1:10,000 map, 1992.
Location formerly entered as NT 5724 3814.
Not to be confused with Leaderfoot Viaduct (NT 57385 34743, across the River Tweed), for which see NT53SE 76.
(Location cited as NT 573 381). Viaduct, Earlston, built c. 1865 for the Berwickshire Rly. A 3-span viaduct, with dressed-stone arch rings, and rubble spandrels and curved wing walls. There are rounded cutwaters.
J R Hume 1976.
This viaduct formerly carried the Reston - St Boswells (Ravenswood Junction) branch line of the North British Rly over the Leader Water to the SSW of Earlston village (NT53NE 47). This portion of the line closed to regular passenger traffic on 13 August 1948.
The Leader Water here forms the boundary between the parishes of Earlston (to the NE) and Melrose (to the SW).
The location assigned to this record defines the centre of the the structure. The available map evidence indicates that it extends from NT c. 57239 38115 to NT c. 57268 38152.
