Surveying Details

-----------------------------

17 April 1975. Near the drying line and about 320 degrees, 2220 metres from Aberlady church, a concrete block uncovers about 0.6 metres at mean highwater springs. There is also reported to be a wreck of a midget submarine here.

Report by HMS EGERIA.

15 July 1993. The site is not shown on the Aberlady Aay LNR and SSSI 1993 coastal map [OS 1:7500].

Source: University of Edinburgh.

Hydrographic Office 1995.

The obstructions noted under NT48SW 8002 and NT48SW 8003 are unlikely to be the remains of midget submarines; the only such craft understood to have been wrecked locally are the two recorded (and accurately located) as NT48SE 8008. In view of the presence of many remains of wartime military activity (including offshore targets) on Gullane Sands, they are probably fixed military structures rather than maritime remains.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 24 February 2003.
