Activities

Project (March 2013 - September 2013)

A project to characterise the quantity and quality of the Scottish resource of known surviving remains of the First World War. Carried out in partnership between Historic Scotland and RCAHMS.

Note (8 November 2013)

The marker's hut and a target for a firing range is on a War Office plan dated 1915 (The National Archives WO 78/5162). There is nothing on the plan to show the location of the butts, but it would seem possible that the troops used the firing trenches c.140m to the E (see NT28SE 5.42). The range would have been abandoned when the gun emplacement (see NT28SE 5.4) was built in 1916 behind the target.

Information from RCAHMS (AKK) 8 November 2013.
