The remains of a series of fire trenches (See also NT28SE 5.28), can be seen at several points on Inchkeith.

The trenches are also visible on RAF WW II oblique aerial photographs (S309, frames 5959 and 5959A, flown 2 October 1941), running down the east part of the island.

The eastern system consists of sections of trench half filled with rubble with a low concrete wall on the seaward side Two picket posts with a brick infill survive on the upper section and on the rocky ridge lower down the slope towards Blockhouse No.6 (NT28SE 5.20).
