Archaeology Notes

NT26NW 454 22276 65633

An installation of unknown function associated with military training in this part of the Pentlands lies in boggy ground between Fala Knowe to the E and Capelaw Hill to the W. It comprises a circular enclosure, measuring 11.6m in diameter within a ditch 1m in breadth and 0.6m in depth, from which three short lengths of ditch extend out to three smaller circular ditched features on the E, SSW and NW respectively. Each of the smaller features measures about 2.5m in internal diameter and, like the interior of the larger central enclosure, each appears to enclose a hard stony layer beneath the thin cover of heather-grown peat.
