Site recorded as part of a desk-based assessment and field inspection conducted in connection with an environmental assessment for proposed works on power lines between Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy.

Fordel Colliery is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Fife and Kinross 1856, sheets 35 and 36) comprising George Pit, Wellington Pit and Lady Anne Pit. Three structures are annotated engine houses along with chimneys and refuse heaps. Only one shaft is shown on the current chart copy of the OS 1:10000 map (1990).
