A type 27 pillbox has been identified from war time RAF vertical air photographs (NLA71, 4033-4, flown 9 September 1943) about 50m SW the main aircraft hangar (NT17SE 70.04). The pillbox was demolished when the runway configuration was altered during the conversion to a civilian airport.
