This minor light guards the entrance to Rosyth dockyard and the inner Forth. It is not noted in any of the standard lighthouse histories.
A small ancillary building (NT 12021 79976) alongside the light presumably held a gas (fuel) supply. This need not date from the initial construction of the beacon.

Desk Based Assessment (26 July 2011)
A desk based assessment of this building was made by RCAHMS Threatened Building Survey following news stories that this un-listed building is to be demolished as part of the Forth Crossing project.
A request for RCAHMS to carry out a non-statutory survey of the site was made via Transport Scotland.
