This rectangular dovecot, measuring 20' x 11 3/4' is probably contemporary with the later 17th century additions made to Houston House (NT07SE 10). The upper part has been rebuilt. It is rubble-walled, partly harled, on a plinth of boulders. There are two chambers, containing 225 and 193 nest-holes. It is described as roofless in 1964.

Small, oblong doocot. Rubble, partly harled and on plinth of boulders. Landing-ledge, interior: 2 chambers, 225 and 193 nest-holes. (Historic Scotland)

Field Visit (10 September 1926)

DOVECOT. A rectangular dovecot, measuring 20 by 11 ¾ feet, which is probably contemporary with the later 17th-century additions, stands 100 yards NE of the house. The entrance faces south. The upper part has been rebuilt.
