(NS 9856 6787) Bronze Age Beakers found (NAT)

OS 1:10000 map (1973)

Two all-over corded type beakers, found in a sandpit 1 mile E of Bathgate, 100 yds S of the railway, and 50 yds W of the road to Blackburn, are in the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS). One, (Accession no: EG 47) was found about the 22nd February 1906, lying on its side about 43' below the summit level of the natural bank of sand and gravel. It contained only sand, and that around it was undisturbed. The other (Accession no: EG 53) was donated to the NMAS in 1920. No further details are given regarding its discovery.

(Centred: NT 9856 6787) Discovery and location of the beakers (although still not precisely sited) are fully described above. The site is now occupied by disused sand quarries, cutting into a natural hillock.
