Prett's Mill (Corn) [NAT]

OS 1:10,000 map [no date available].

(Location cited as NS 902 402). Prett's Mill, 19th century. A 2-storey rubble block, forming an L with a kiln and a dwellinghouse range. There are three pairs of stones, situated on a half-floor, and belt-driven by two turbines (installed 1914). There are also a roller mill by Richmond & Chandler, Manchester, and an Albion Patent Grinding Mill by Harrison, McGregor & Co Ltd, Leigh, Lancs. Disused, but intact.

Site recorded during an archaeological evaluation conducted on 30 alternative route elements, with a combined length of c84km, for a proposed road linking the M8 near Whitburn, Lothian Region with the M6/M74 near Douglas, Clydesdale District.
