Archaeology Notes

NS88SE 21.01 8851 8487.

(NS 8851 8487) A sundial stands on a modern pedestal in the re-entrant angle of the eastern block of offices at Kinnaird House. It is of the cubical type, with a decorative finial, but it now lacks the vanes. It is 2'4" in height by 1'8" across each face. One face is dated 1690; the opposite one bears the arms of Bruce of Kinnaird, who owned the estate in the second half of the 17th century, and a motto.

Kinnaird House itself is a 19th century mansion incorporating the stair of an earlier (18th century) house, and some details of the earlier house are preserved outside the N wall of the kitchen garden.

RCAHMS 1963, visited 1954

This sundial has been removed. No further information.
