Situated on the E side of Black Loch, this coal mine, which is depicted on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map as pithead buildings, labelled 'Barnsmuir Colliery Pit No. 7', at the end of a siding of the mineral railway which serves the rest of Barnsmuir Colliery (Stirlingshire 1899, sheet xxxv), is visible as a levelled bing, whilst the 'Air Shaft' that is also depicted on the 2nd edition OS map about 200m to the NE, comprises a partly levelled bing.
