The remains of this mine are situated on the NE side of the Stepends Road, 200m N of Annieshill farmsteading. The shaft is visible, with the remains of brick buildings around it, and the bing lies to the NW of these (CSW 4208). The site is marked on the revised edition of the OS 6-inch map as Stepends Colliery Pit No.2 (Lanarkshire 1914, sheet viii). The 1st edition of the map (Lanarkshire sheet viii, 1864) shows an earlier phase of mining at Stepends Colliery, of which only fragments remain. Two pits are shown: a coal pit at NS 8071 6686 (CSW 4535), now covered by the later bing, and an ironstone pit to the NW at NS 8066 6696 (CSW 4536), which has been levelled. These were linked to the Monkland Railway by a tramway which zig-zagged down the hill to the NW. From the pits the tramway continued to the SE past Annieshill farm (this stretch is still visible) to Annieshill Row (NS 8086 6658; CSW 4532), of which only a terraced platform remains, before continuing on to an ironstone pit SW of Lilly Loch (NS86NW 30).
