(NS 7348 7640) Roman Altar found AD 1913 (NAT)

OS 6" map (1968)

A small rough, Roman altar, measuring 1'1 3/4" x 7 3/4", was found in 1913 rather less than 100 yds S of Croy Hill fort. It was donated to the Hunterian Museum, Glasgow, with the small base on which it had stood. It was dedicated to Mars, and its inscription reads: "MAR(T)I. CDB.VS".
