Archaeology Notes

NS76NW 68.05 72948 65061

In the National Archives of Scotland, West Register House, is a plan, RHP 18540/1, undated, showing the elevation and plan of this bridge. There are twelve lattice shapes shown, rising in an arch to the centre of the structure, and the bridge has stone abutments. The bridge is clearly shown on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Lanarkshire 1864, sheet vii) and on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Lanarkshire 1899, sheet viiSE). The site is still visible on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1982) and on the OS Basic Scale raster map (ND).

Information from RCAHMS (MD) 20 December 2001.
