This is one of the bridges crossing the canal at this point, representing almost every branch of transport.

This pedestrian bridge, slightly arched and low over the water, was constructed to take horses from the towpath over the main canal to the Gartsherrie Branch. This roving bridge was called the 'Horse Bridge.'

This bridge is visible on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Lanarkshire 1864, sheet vii) and on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Lanarkshire 1899, sheet viiSE). According to plans in the North Lanarkshire Archives, Cumbernauld (Drumpellier Estate Papers U12 082 and U12 083) the bridge was still in existence c.1900 and c.1905.
