These locks are 'in great forwardness,' although not actually completed.
OSA VII 1793.
The locks were not finished until 1794, each double lock furnishing two falls 'each of 12 feet in one range of building.' Unfortunately the higher pressure on this type of lock in comparison with ordinary single locks meant that there was a considerable expenditure on repairs for many years.
In 1841 the locks were duplicated, creating a double set. Each lock was 70 feet in length, 13 feet 6 inches wide and carried a depth of water of 6 feet.

Due to traffic increase, it was decided to create a complete double line of locks in the 1840s.

These locks were completed in 1793, but had become a bottleneck by the early 1830s. In 1841 new locks to create a double set were completed.
In the 1950s the locks were still in a reasonable condition. The lock chambers were very deep, the operating depth of the canal being 5 feet.

The locks were duplicated in the early 1840s due to the level of traffic on the canal.
