(NS 5229 7267) Roman Distance-slab found 1847 (NAT)

OS 1:10,000 map, (1973)

This distance slab of the Twentieth Legion was ploughed up in 1847, about half way down the slope of the field between the Peel Glen and Castlehill fort (NS57SW 1). Measuring 2'6" x 2'4", it is incomplete, and its inscription, which duplicates that on the slab noted on NS57SW 111 reads: "IMP.C.T.AELIO.ANTONINO.AVG.PIO.P.P. VEX.LEG.XX.V.(V).P.P.III". It is now in the Hunterian Museum, Glasgow Photo.
