Belmont Bridge: built 1870 to carry Belmont St over the River Kelvin. A high elliptical masonry arch, carrying an inclined roadway. The abutments are rusticated, and there are cast-iron parapets. A subsidiary span carrying the street over Garriochmill Road was of cast iron, with six ribs and lattice railings; this was replaced in concrete c. 1971.

This bridge was built in 1870 for the City of Glasgow Bank, to connect their property of North Woodside with the Hillhead area in general, and Great Western Road in particular. The Bank specified a 'handsome stone bridge, and thus was built a woderful example of grandiose Victorian bridge building. The structure is an extremely imposing high masonry arch carrying the inclined roadway of Belmont Street over the river and down to Great Western Road. The overall effect from river level is heightened considerably by the commanding presence of the adjacent Kelvin Stevenson Memorial Church (NS56NE 1159.00).
The tall abutments are in rusticated stone, and there are elegant carved stone parapets at steet level. A subsidiary span on the N bank carries Belmont Street over the former Garriochmill Road; this was originally built as a cast-iron arch, but was replaced in concrete in 1971. The route of this low-level road now forms part of the Kelvin Walkway.
D Boyce 1996.
This bridge carries Belmont Road across the River Kelvin, which here forms the boundary between the parishes of Govan (to the SW) and Glasgow (to the NE).
The location cited defines the centre of the structure. The available map evidence indicates that it extends from NS c. 57491 67291 to NS c. 57479 67271.
